Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is probably the most anticipated game on most people’s lists if we’re talking 2023. I’d wager that it’s going to be on roughly 90% of people’s lists if we’re talking “summer 2023.” It’s a big game is what I’m saying. And it was also recognized as such at the Famitsu Game Awards this past week.
After winning the award, legendary Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma gave a short acceptance speech, serving to both hype up Tears of the Kingdom and provide a little more info on what to expect for this still-relatively-mysterious-release. Here’s the full transcript, with a translation courtesy of Twitter user Genki_JPN:
“In the previous title, ‘Breath of the Wild‘, you were able to experience a new world of Zelda with the ‘freedom to go wherever and do whatever you want’. In the sequel, ‘Tears of the Kingdom‘, furthermore, the players free imagination will be filled with new gameplay that will bring about changes to the game world. I think that everyone who voted will feel pleasantly surprised and I hope you can enjoy the ‘unknown’ Hyrule as you like. Thank you!”
“Filled with new gameplay that will bring about changes to the game world” is the focus here, and while it could mean anything, I’m curious to see if it is indeed just hype, or something significant that they’re trying with the sequel. You can find the full acceptance speech below (it starts at roughly 5:04:05 in).
