Electronic Arts’ new football brand is off to a strong start, according to the publisher.
EA Sports FC 24 attracted “more than 11.3 million players worldwide, including through EA Play”, during its first week, the company has claimed.
In comparison, a similar press release announcing last year’s “record-breaking launch of FIFA 23” said the game reached 10.3 million players in its first week. However, it didn’t specify if the figure included EA Play subscribers, who may have trialled the game but not purchased it.
EA Sports FC Mobile, the latest in the company’s series of mobile football games, which has also rebranded following EA’s split with FIFA, was installed 2.2 million times on its release day, according to EA.
In the 10 days following its September 26 release, over 11.2 million new users downloaded the game, it said.
“We’re thrilled to have so many fans jumping into The World’s Game in both EA Sports FC 24 and FC Mobile in just the first few days since launch,” said EA Sports president Cam Weber.
“In addition to welcoming back millions of our longtime players, new players in FC 24 are up nearly 20% year over year, showing the excitement of football fans everywhere to join the Club. We are building the world’s biggest football community through EA Sports FC, and we’re just getting started.”
EA announced last May that it was ending a near 30-year partnership with FIFA and that it planned to launch a new football series.
“EA Sports FC 24 isn’t the huge departure that we’d hoped for,” VGC’s review of the game concluded. “While Ultimate Team devotees will likely be happy, the rest of the game feels like an afterthought in the transition away from the FIFA license.”
