Hollywood's Avi Arad and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto are teaming up to bring Zelda fans everywhere a live-action film based on the beloved ‘The Legend of Zelda’ series.
The film is being helmed by ‘Maze Runner’ and ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ director Wes Ball and written by ‘Jurassic World’ screenwriter Derek Connolly. Miyamoto and Arad will produce the film, which is being co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with Nintendo ponying up over 50% of the costs of the films development and Sony handling its worldwide theatrical distribution.
<p dir=«ltr» lang=«en» xml:lang=«en»>This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. [1]This latest film adaptation of another of Nintendo’s game franchises represents a significant shift in the company’s openness to such projects. 1993’s live-action ‘Super Mario Bros.’ was so ill-received that it put Nintendo off from future theatrical adaptations until the release of 2023’s animated ‘Mario’ film starring Chris Pratt. The latest 'Mario' film was a smash hit at the box office this year, grossing nearly 1.5B worldwide.
No plot details were made available in today’s announcement, but it’s safe to say Zelda and our Hero of Time Link are likely to make an appearance.
