Developer Funcom provided a new look at Dune: Awakening, an upcoming open-world survival MMO game. The new trailer and deep dive into Dune: Awakening comes just days after the opening of the Dune: Part Two film in theaters. The roughly 25-minute presentation gives fans a look at some of the core features coming to the game based on Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi novel, including base-building, combat, and traversal.
A first look at Dune: Awakening debuted during Gamescom's Opening Night Live event in 2022. The initial teaser trailer shows off impressive visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5. The latest look at the upcoming MMO maintains the stunning look of the initial trailer but expands on the tone by offering a glimpse at gameplay and the world of Arrakis.
Funcom debuted its first Dune: Awakening Direct, a first in a series of deep dives for the upcoming sandbox survival MMO. The nearly 25-minute livestream detailed a myriad of features before culminating in Dune: Awakening's first official gameplay trailer. The team started by giving an expansive look at the dangerous world of Arrakis, one of the most important planets in the Dune universe and the setting of the upcoming title.
Having been able to visit the set of Dune 2021, the development team at Funcom was able to learn and take inspiration from the Academy Award-winning adaptation of Herbert's legendary novel. However, by harnessing the power and capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, Funcom has expanded on the desert planet of Arrakis, allowing players to craft their own stories within the world. In addition to showcasing impressive visuals, the Dune: Awakening gameplay trailer features base-building, combat, traversal, and various survival mechanics.
