Much like Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering, Dragon Ball Super is going from paper to digital. Bandai Namco announced the move late last year, and now we're getting a progress update thanks to an upcoming beta test.
The beta test is intended to gauge game behavior, matchmaker performance, and test Bandai's servers. The beta will be English only and players will only be able to play Free Match, which will randomly match them against a human opponent. You'll need a PC to join (either Windows 10 or Windows 11), and Bandai is warning players to expect some bugs. This is a beta, after all.

Players can use this site here to register interest for the beta. All entries must be received before March 13 at 8:59 PM PST to be eligible. There are 12,000 slots available and Bandai will hold a random draw to see who gets to play. Lucky participants will be contacted by email. The beta is open only to residents of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and Italy.
As for what players can expect, the trailer above showcases all the new animations that will add significant "excitement" to the game. Leader cards are represented by avatars of the actual characters, and they'll even launch attacks that match player actions. You can see Vegeta throw a bunch of energy balls and Goku uses his signature Kamehameha wave.
Participants will receive an email notification with download instructions by March 21 if they've been selected. If not, don't worry--there will undoubtedly be more tests before Dragon Ball Super releases. And if you're worried about this being a PC game, I'd bet my bottom dollar there's big plans for mobile.
