Super Mario Bros. Movie Has A Deep-Cut Reference To Miiverse’s Water Guy

Over the past couple of months, Nintendo and Illumination have proven that The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a veritable treasure trove of references and easter eggs for both the Super Mario series and Nintendo as a whole. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the plumbing commercials, which not only featured a remix of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show rap, but also seemingly featured the voice of Princess Toadstool from the same show.

The easter eggs don’t stop there, however. An in-universe website for Super Mario Bros. plumbing recently went live and it features a bunch of new easter eggs, mostly thanks to testimonials from a number of characters. One of the best of the bunch is actually a reference to a Miiverse legend - the “amazing water” guy.
For those who are unaware, one Miiverse user going by the name of “MARIO WIIU” used to share pictures on Miiverse showing off how the water in each game looked, from Lego The Hobbit to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Ever the optimist, most of these posts were incredibly positive, saying things like “nice looking water” and “amazing water in this game”.
As spotted by Twitter user CatridgeGames, the Super Mario Bros. Plumbing website includes a testimonial from “Pipe_Dreamz” that says “amazing looking water courtesy of the brothers”. Although it’s already pretty clearly a reference, the testimonial is also written all in lower-case letters, just like how MARIO WIIU typed on every Miiverse post.
