Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's official website claims that it's going to have a "historic" number of playable characters, implying that it's going to have more fighters than Budokai Tenkaichi 3.
The Game Awards 2023 might have been a bit of a mess when it came to doing what it's actually meant for and celebrating the developers who make games, but there were at least some nice gaming surprises. One of the biggest of these was the next Budokai Tenkaichi game, which has officially been called Sparking: Zero.
The reveal trailer for Sparking: Zero made it very clear that it was going to be carrying on the gameplay mechanics from the Budokai Tenkaichi series, including Beam Clashes and the ability to destroy the environment by using specific ultimate attacks, something that seems to be a focus of the latest game.
As great as it is to see that confirmed for Sparking: Zero, the one big question that most Dragon Ball fans have had since the reveal of a new Budokai Tenkaichi is whether or not it'd try and replicate the ginormous roster that Budokai Tenkaichi 3 had. Nothing was confirmed when a new entry in the series was announced, but it seemed doubtful considering how much more detail is needed for each character in this day and age.
Budokai Tenkaichi 3 has 161 characters if you include all of the transformations, which is going to be a very high bar for Sparking: Zero to clear.
Although it seemed unlikely at first (or at least a herculean task), it seems that Sparking: Zero might actually be trying to have as many characters as Budokai Tenkaichi 3 after all.
