Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's latest trailer seems to be teasing that the game will launch with 164 characters (including transformations), which is three more than Budokai Tenkaichi 3.
It's not been that long since we last got a look at Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, but that doesn't mean that fans weren't excited about the new trailer that just debuted at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2024. The new footage focused on Goku and Vegeta and showed the pair going through nearly all of their canon transformations (except for Ultra Instinct, that is).
Beyond confirming that giant characters will be in the game and giving us our best look yet at how Sparking: Zero actually plays, one of the most interesting parts of the trailer was towards the end, which seemed to be teasing how many characters are going to be playable as part of the "historic" roster.
As the trailer finished, it showed a hexagon that seems to represent how many playable characters are going to be on the roster overall at launch. If you count the spaces shown, then it seems to indicate that Sparking: Zero is going to have a roster of 164 characters, including transformations.
What's particularly interesting about this roster hint is that, if it is actually 164 characters, it's only three more than Budokai Tenkaichi 3 had. While that technically does still make it a "historic" roster that's bigger than any other Dragon Ball game, it's not that many more considering we've already had several brand-new characters confirmed like Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue forms for Goku and Vegeta, and Super characters like Trunks, Jiren, and Bergamo.
This seems to imply that not every single character from Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is going to make it into Sparking: Zero. My bet is that smaller characters like "Frieza Soldier" and Devilman aren't going to be brought over, as Super is surely going to count for a lot of the game's roster. We haven't even seen newer characters like Ultra Instinct Goku, Beast Gohan, and Orange
