A specific fight in the new Dragon Ball game is driving players up the wall — and having struggled through it ourselves, we can absolutely see why. Early on in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero's story-based Episode Mode, you go up against Vegeta's Great Ape form — a giant enemy that offers up a much different challenge to your regular-sized opponents.
Basically, the battle is a massive pain in the arse. Great Ape Vegeta is capable of both grabbing you out of melee combos and nailing you from a distance with beam attacks — and getting hit with either of these moves demolishes a large portion of your health bar.
A quick jaunt over to the Sparking! Zero Reddit shows just how widespread the frustration is, with numerous threads all complaining about Great Ape Vegeta and his busted moves. He's a real roadblock in terms of progressing through the game's single-player modes.
And if you really want a taste of the frustration for yourself, look no further than this now viral tweet from @BarretDokkan, who's resorted to simply hitting the retry button as soon as Vegeta pulls off one of his infamous attacks. Can't blame them!
The complaints are so widespread that we're almost certain Bandai Namco will take action. In fact, a lot of the game's AI could do with an overhaul. We're playing Sparking! Zero right now for review purposes, and one of our few criticisms is that the opponent AI is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes it feels like the difficultly skyrockets for no good reason — and Great Ape Vegeta is a perfect example.
By the way, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is only available in early access at the time of writing this article, via the game's more expensive editions. It's fair to assume that the complaints will go nuclear once the title is available to everyone on the 11th October.
