Nintendo provided quite a few surprises during its latest Direct, from The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom starring Zelda to the first gameplay of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. However, it kicked things off with the announcement of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, launching early next year for Nintendo Switch.
As an HD remaster of Retro Studios’ 2011 side-scrolling classic, it offers revamped visuals, new controls, and even additional levels from Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. Interestingly, the port is handled by Poland-based Forever Entertainment, as revealed in an official report on Bankier. It notes that the title is produced on Nintendo’s behalf, with the latter acting as publisher.
Forever Entertainment is best known for publishing remakes of classic titles like The House of the Dead: Remake, Front Mission: 1st Remake and Front Mission 2: Remake. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is out on January 16th, expect more extended gameplay and details in the coming months. In the meantime, check out our review of the original here.
