Following in the footsteps of Apple and Samsung, Google has announced a self-repair program for its Pixel smartphones. Apple delivered one of the biggest turnabouts in its business philosophy late last year when it announced that it will sell genuine spare parts via an official store and provide access to repair manuals to help iPhone owners fix their own smartphones.
That was followed by Samsung announcing its own self-repair program in association with popular online spare parts retailer iFixit. According to the two companies, the program will not only result in customers getting easier access to genuine parts, it will also help them access step-by-step repair guides and the tools needed to carry out those repairs.

Google has also now announced a partnership with iFixit to sell official replacement parts for its Pixel phones. The program will go into effect later this year in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia and European countries where Pixel devices are sold. The decision is expected to make it easier for DIY users and third-party repair shops to fix broken Pixel devices without having to go to official service centers. The plan will cover a large number of Pixel models, ranging from the Pixel 2 through to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, as well as future Pixel phones. According to Google, batteries, replacement displays, cameras and other parts will be available individually or as part of iFixit kits, which include tools needed to carry out the repairs.
