Dambuster has released a new extended gameplay video for Dead Island 2, showing protagonist Dani wandering through Beverly Hills and Bel Air taking out zombies in different ways. The approximately 15 minutes of footage gives a look at different weapons, both ranged and melee, as well as a number of skills that players will be able to use against the undead.
We got to go hands on with the game at Gamescom 2022 and came away reasonably impressed by what Dambuster had to show at the time. In our Dead Island 2 preview, Stefan wrote, “Having spent a long time shying away from the spotlight, it’s great to see Dead Island 2 reappearing with a newfound confidence and swagger. This isn’t a game that’s still got years of development to go – it’s slated for February next year – it’s not trying to figure out what it wants to be and it’s not looking over its shoulders for what rivals are doing. It’s a straight up, pulpy melee zombie game.”
Unfortunately, Dead Island 2 was delayed from its February 2023 release date, pushed back by a couple of months. The development of Dead Island 2 was troubled from the start, after Deep Silver and Techland fell out following the release of the original game and its standalone spin-off. Announced in 2014 with Yager Development behind the project, development stalled, was moved over to Sumo Digital, stalled again, and then eventually moved on over to Dambuster in 2019. It is now due to be released on April 21st for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
