Red Hook Studios has today confirmed Darkest Dungeon 2 will be releasing for PS5 and PS4 on 15th July 2024. Its DLC, The Binding Blade, is also being ported across to Sony systems, though you'll need to buy it on top of the base game. A discount is being offered to PS Plus members, and there'll also be an Oblivion Bundle containing all content available to pre-order. Check out the announcement trailer above.
Released for PC last year after almost two years of Early Access, the sequel changes the perspective to 3D and rebuilds the turn-based combat system to offer more strategy. «Each expedition, you will first form a party of four flawed heroes and equip your stagecoach,» a PlayStation Blog post reveals. «Then you will set off on an arduous journey across a decaying landscape filled with remnants of crumbling civilizations. Your mission: to overcome one of your past failures, embodied by a monstrous boss lurking atop the far off snow-capped mountain.»
The PS5 version will use the DualSense controller's unique features, like haptic feedback replicating your heroes' heartbeat and adaptive triggers mimicking the wheels of your stagecoach rolling over a trap. «We at Red Hook Studios are thrilled to bring Darkest Dungeon II to PlayStation, and we hope you’ll join us on the journey,» said communications director Michaela Pontellini. «The game is a labour of love for us, and we plan to continue to expand it.»
Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he can be found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.
Finally! I've been waiting for this for what feels like forever.
Those without stomach for this place must move on.
Woohoo, PS4 version! Great news. I love that they were able to retain Chris Bourassa's signature art style in the transition to 3D.
