Protagonist Makoto Naegi, however, believes that it's important to maintain bonds and trust. To that end, the player can build bonds between Makoto and his classmates, perhaps even forming deep friendships. These bonds can actually be important in-game, as they unlock abilities that players can employ during class trials.
