The upcoming Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim anime now officially has a release date. Based on the epic fantasy novels by author J. R. R. Tolkien, Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy brought the world of Middle-earth to life like never before, introducing audiences to Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, and a host of other races and creatures. After Jackson's less successful trilogy of Hobbit films starting in 2012, Tolkien's work is set to be adapted again with Amazon's upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, an anime adventure film.
While much remains unknown about the highly-anticipated film, The War of the Rohirrim is expected to take place hundreds of years before the events of Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, telling the previously unexplored story of the origin of Helm's Deep and its founder, Helm Hammerhand. The film is directed by Kenji Kamiyama from a screenplay by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, with additional writing credits going to Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. New Line Cinema, the production studio behind Jackson's originalThe Lord of the Ringsand The Hobbit trilogies, returns to the world of Middle-earth to produce The War of the Rohirrim.
