Actress Miranda Otto will reprise her role as Éowyn in New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation's upcoming anime feature, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. ​​​​​​Otto portrayed Éowyn in the second and third Lord of the Rings films.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, The War of the Rohirrim centers around the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the mighty King of Rohan, a character from the J.R.R. Tolkien book’s appendix. The story is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the originalLord of the Rings trilogy.

In the Lord of the Rings films, Éowyn is a Shieldmaiden of Rohan and King Theoden's niece. She develops a close relationship with Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen). Despite her desire to fight for her people, Éowyn is forbidden from serving in the Rohan army. Despite this barrier, Éowyn disguises herself and marches into battle alongside hobbit Merry Brandybuck and her fellow countrymen in Return of the King.She even slays the dreaded Witch-king of Angmar, Lord of the Nazgûl, during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
