There's a metric ton of content available to participate in throughout the ever-expanding world of Final Fantasy 14, many of which reward you with currency, items, and other goodies for going out of your way to do them. One of the oldest, quickest ways to earn some Gil, EXP, and obtain items is by carrying out Guildleves.

Guildleves have been around since A Realm Reborn and have been prevalent in every expansion since, making them an excellent source of experience for newcomers or alt-jobs. Guildleves also covers every discipline, allowing you to focus on Crafting, Gathering, and Combat Levequests to gain experience and rewards for those specific classes and jobs.
Guildleves, also known as Levequests, are quick and repeatable instances that reward you with experience, Gil, and other goodies upon completion. However, to participate in Guildleves, you must first possess enough Leve Allowance. You will naturally gain three Leve Allowance after twelve hours (earth time) and will max out once reaching 100 Leve Allowance.
Levequests are acquired by speaking to a Levemete and accepting a quest from one of the three types (Battlecraft, Fieldcraft, and Tradecraft). After choosing your Levequest, it will be viewable and initiated from your journal. Once you are in the area of the Guildleve, you will have to open your journal and start the quest from there.
