CD Projekt Red has announced Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, a freshly minted Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC release on 5th December 2023 that will include all of the improvements and added content that have been made since launch.
Available both digitally and physically, the Ultimate Edition will bundle together the original Cyberpunk 2077 story and the new spy thriller expansion pack Phantom Liberty, which added a new district of Dogtown.
This will also feature all of the updates made since late 2020, with the free Update 2.0, which reworked a bunch of game systems including skill trees, vehicle combat, enemy and police AI and more.
As the game originally only released on PS4 and Xbox One without PS5 and Xbox Series X|S enhancements – these arrived with a current gen upgrade over a year later – this is a fresh master of the game for the newer consoles, and so all of the Update 2.0 content will be included on the disc instead of relying on digital downloads for updates and patches.
However, there is one wrinkle to this. The Phantom Liberty expansion will only be included on disc for the Xbox Series X|S version, with the expansion included by way of a DLC download code for PS5 and PC. This, per CDPR Community Manager Marcin Momot, is because of specific platform requirements for a release like this.
Of course, if you already own the game, then upgrading to Xbox Series X|S or PS5 is free, but this should be a nice bundle for any newcomers that were put off by the original, rather calamitous release, or anyone that wants to have a physical copy on the current gen for posterity.
