Dungeons of Hinterberg is on the way from Microbird Games, combing the alpine beauty of the Austrian alps with skiing, snowboarding, and dungeon crawling to fight monsters. Luisa is the main character, who embarks on an adventure to fight the monsters armed with a sword and magic. In the latest developer diary, the overworld of Kolmstein is shown.
Dungeons of Hinterberg’s four biomes have different magical powers that Luisa can use to help in exploring the world to solve puzzles as well as combat. The magic skills that you get in Kolmstein includes a magical hoverboard and a light ray that allows you shoot at objects from a distance. When you acquire these skills you can test them out to get to grips with them at the skill shrines before moving on. There are gloop like growths that can be destroyed to replenish health and mana points. The in game currency is called hinterbucks which can be gained from combat and exploration, such as finding them in chests.
The overworlds, including Kolmstein, are more rooted in reality, even though there are monsters, whereas the dungeons have more fantastical elements to them. When fighting enemies you are restricted to an area until they are defeated or Luisa is beaten, but once the encounter is over you are free to continue. There are different enemy types with bigger ones having additional skills. One enemy is able to stick its head into the ground and make it pop up elsewhere to whack Luisa with. Certain enemies also have shields that need to be destroyed before the health can be chipped away at. Luisa can also equip charms that grand additional abilities too, like causing shockwaves.
