CS: GO players are going idle in deathmatches to try and rack up as many hours as possible in the game to give them more of a chance at an invite to the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test.
After months of rumours, datamines, and being sent into a frenzy over something as simple as a logo change, CS: GO players finally got the announcement they'd all been waiting for yesterday when Valve confirmed that Counter-Strike 2 is real and is coming this Summer. Reception to the footage so far has been incredibly positive, so much so that some players are already doing some pretty wild things to try and get early access to the sequel.

Alongside announcing Counter-Strike 2, Valve also revealed that a limited technical test will be coming at some point before the game's full release. This sounds like good news, but there's a catch - invites to the technical test are going to be limited, and players will be selected based on a number of factors, one of which is playtime. According to a blog post on Steam, "recent playtime on Valve official servers, trust factor, and Steam account standing" will all play into the chances of getting an invite.
As you can imagine, this has led some CS: GO players to start doing whatever they can to boost their hours and get a greater chance at an invite to the technical test. Some are probably just taking the chance to play more Counter-Strike, but, as reported by GamesRadar+, there are some who are simply going AFK in matches to try and farm hours.
