Crunchyroll members in over 200 countries and territories are getting a new perk to their subscription with the launch of the Crunchyroll Game Vault, an ever- growing library of mobile games, now available on Android OS and soon to be available on iOS.
Crunchyroll is kicking things off with five launch titles, including tactical action game Captain Velvet: The Jump+ Dimensions; beat-em-up River City Girls; single player RPG Wolfstride; visual novel Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery, and food-themed puzzle game inbento.
With this move, Crunchyroll follows in the footsteps of Netflix’s entry into video games. Like, Netflix, Crunchyroll’s Game Vault games are ad-free and do not feature in-app purchases. However, the platform’s games are not available to Fan tier subscribers, which is a marked difference from Netflix’s offering that makes games available to subscribers at every tier.
The Game Vault is available for subscribers of the platform’s Mega and Ultimate Fan plans, which are priced at $9.99 and $14.99 respectively. Game Vault titles are unrelated to Crunchyroll’s free-to-download titles published by Crunchyroll Games.
A new wave of titles are said to be coming soon, though it appears to be that Crunchyroll is taking a more curated approach to its library, seeking to provide subscribesr with “premium mobile games specifically for fans of anime and anime-inspired entertainment.”
