CMA invites yet more perspectives on Microsoft Activision deal
The UK's competition regulator, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), has put out another call for views on Microsoft's proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
In a post on its website, the organisation said that it wanted to know whether there had been any "material change of circumstances" on the matter following Microsoft submitting a 34-page report on how its deal and surrounding context had changed. That came in the wake of the CMA blocking the acquisition in the UK back in April of this year.
The CMA has admitted that this is "not a usual part of the process" but that it wanted to consider the arguments put forward by Microsoft. These include the Xbox firm believing that the commitments it had made to the European Commission – as well as a 10-year deal made for Call of Duty with rival PlayStation – meant that the deal should be allowed to go through.
"Submissions of this nature are possible but are very rare," a CMA spokesperson told GI.biz. "We will consider Microsoft’s submissions carefully, along with other responses from interested parties, ahead of the 29 August statutory deadline."
