Chris Evans describes the difficulty of voice acting in Lightyear. Evans voices the classic Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear in this prequel film from Disney Pixar. The film is directed by Angus MacLane, who co-directed Pixar’s Finding Dory with Andrew Stanton in 2016, and has worked in the animation department for Pixar films since 1998’s A Bug’s Life. Lightyearalso features vocal performances from Keke Palmer, The Good Dinosaur director Peter Sohn, Taika Waititi, Uzo Aduba, and Bill Hader.
After the fourth movie in the franchise, Lightyear is the first Toy Story-related film since 2019. It is the fifth overall film within the Toy Story series, as its release follows Toy Story 4, but it is the first Toy Story spinoff feature. The other toys are left out of Lightyear, which just focuses on an early space adventure of astronaut Buzz Lightyear, the real-life man who inspired the toy featured in the franchise's other movies.
