A theory regarding Thor: Love and Thunder speculates that Odin himself gives Jane Foster her Mighty Thor powers in a move that harks back to Thor: The Dark World. Following the announcement of a fourth Thor film in the MCU, it was subsequently confirmed by director Taika Waititi that Natalie Portman would be returning to play Jane Foster. Jane was a central character in the first two Thor movies as Thor's love interest, and someone that hugely influenced Thor's early years in the MCU.
However, by the time Thor: Ragnarok was released, Jane was notably absent from the film, with only one line about her and Thor's break-up providing any reasoning as to why Portman didn't return. Yet following Jane Foster's surprise cameo in Avengers: Endgame, it was revealed that Portman would return to the role, only this time following a very specific Thor comic run in which Jane Foster becomes the Mighty Thor.

Since this announcement, speculation and theories have run rampant regarding exactly how Jane will be integrated back into the MCU with such a massive change to her character. From theories that the MCU will follow Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor run and incorporate Jane Foster's cancer storyline to speculation that a multiversal variant of Jane would be the one featured in Love and Thunder, the discourse has been almost endless surrounding her character's Thor origins. However, one theory states that these origins come from none other than the Allfather himself, Odin, with the reasoning as to why he would bestow Thor's powers on Jane Foster going back to 2011's Thor and 2013's Thor: The Dark World.
