Capcom has rolled out another new theme for one of its veteran World Warriors making their grand return in Street Fighter 6. And this time around it’s the turn of the Red Cyclone himself, The Iron Body, weighing in at 399 pounds and hailing from Mother Russia, it’s Zangief!
As is the case for almost all of the new Street Fighter 6 themes, Zangief’s new tune has something of an underground, garage-mix flavor. But that doesn’t mean that the tune doesn’t open up to the unmistakable sounds of Slavic culture. There’s also a clear element of threat and danger to Zangief’s tune, which puts fear back into a character that has, for far too long, been played off as something of a comedy character. And, given the devastating nature of the gameplay footage we’ve seen of The Iron Body in action, The Street Fighter 6 iteration of Zangief is going to be no laughing matter.
Of the scrapper’s launch roster, we now need only hear the themes for Delta Red agent Cammy and club-swinging Mexican newcomer Lily, and our litany of character themes are complete. I’ll admit, I fully understand the divisive nature of Street Fighter 6‘s “sound”, but while some of the tunes leave something to be desired, I do prefer these themes to those of Street Fighter V and feel that the overall audial style is fitting with the new sequel’s visual aesthetic.
Street Fighter 6 launches June 2 on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox. Be sure to check out the themes for Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke, and Jamie, Juri and Kimberly, Blanka and Dhalsim, DeeJay and JP, and Manon, and Marisa.
