A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fan has discovered an interesting link between the newest title of the franchise and the Call of Duty: Black Ops setting during a recently released raid. With this link, it would be proved that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops belong in the same universe, or at least have some overlap between their stories.
As expected from a franchise that has been out for so long, the Call of Duty universe has deep lore. In its over 20 years of history with releases almost every single year, the shooter crafted alternate histories that ranged between World War 2 and the future, creating self-contained universes in different timelines. The new Modern Warfare games, first released in 2019, are considered a reboot and therefore would be set in an entirely new timeline apart from the original Modern Warfare from 2007. Now, however, some links to previous titles of the series are appearing.

The Call of Duty fan profile Cod Lore Facts has spotted a few Nova 6 barrels in a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 raid. According to them, this establishes even more than before that there’s a connection between the current universe and the Black Ops one. In Call of Duty: Black Ops, Nova 6 is a chemical weapon developed by Nazi scientists and then used by other superpowers, such as the Soviets. It featured as a fairly important plot device in both the first and third titles of the Black Ops series, so its appearance is a major hint of the connected universe theory.
