Co-showrunner Keto Shimizu reveals Booster Gold's introduction was developed with the intention of saving Legends of Tomorrow from cancellation. Originally developed by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Phil Klemmer, the series served as an official crossover of The CW's Arrowverse as characters from its various shows were enlisted to journey through time in the hopes of stopping various threats to realities. The main cast for Legends of Tomorrow has included Brandon Routh's The Atom, Caity Lotz's Sara Lance, Dominic Purcell's Heat Wave, Maisie Richardson-Sellers' Vixen and Clotho, Nick Zano's Steel, Tala Ashe's Zari, Ava Sharpe's Jess, Olivia Swann's Astra and Matt Ryan's John Constantine.
Legends of Tomorrow season 7 picked up after the cliffhanger season 6 finale in which the titular team were left stranded in time in 1925 Texas after a duplicate version of the time-traveling Waverider ship destroyed their own. The group must also contend with an evil version of the Waverider's artificial intelligence Gideon after a pre-villainous Bishop accidentally removes her humanity protocol. Legends of Tomorrow season 7 memorably ended with the team and Mike Carter, a time fixer better known by the name of Booster Gold, being arrested by the latter's superiors and though the show has been canceled, it appears there was a bigger plan behind this introduction.
