Throughout the Dragon Ball Super manga series, Goku and Vegeta have been training harder than they ever have before in an effort to unlock the godly forms of Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, respectively. While the two have previously been able to tap into those forms on separate occasions, they recently did so together for the first time ever while going up against an insanely powerful foe. The moment immediately became iconic because of this epic feat, the only problem, however, is that the battle that followed didn’t make any sense.
In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 70 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, an intergalactic bounty hunter named Granolah wished upon the Dragon Balls of Planet Cereal to become the strongest person in the universe. When the Dragon answers his call and prepares to grant his wish, the Dragon tells Granolah that he can make him stronger than anyone aside from the gods themselves. A few chapters later, a villain named Elec (the leader of the gang of criminals known as the Heeters) wished upon the same Dragon Balls to make his brother, Gas, the strongest person in the universe, even more so than Granolah.

In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 84 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, Goku and Vegeta have decided to work together to defeat Gas instead of doing what they usually do and fight the villain one at a time. At that point, Goku and Vegeta make their iconic transformations together, with Goku channeling the angelic power of Ultra Instinct and Vegeta harnessing the godly energy of Ultra Ego. In these forms, the Saiyans are successfully channeling the power of the gods themselves
