Caution: spoilers ahead for Better Call Saul season 6, episode 7
Better Call Saul co-creator Peter Gould says fans are right to be worried about the fate of Kim Wexler in the show’s sixth and final season. Developed by Gould and Vince Gilligan, the prequel series follows Bob Odenkirk’s Slippin’ Jimmy before he became Walter White’s attorney, Saul Goodman, and, eventually, Gene Takovic—the Cinnabon employee in hiding following the events of Breaking Bad. Similar to its predecessor, Better Call Saul explores the effect its main character and his ego have on those around him.
While fans know Jimmy (as well as characters like Mike and Gus) will survive Better Call Saul, other prominent characters aren’t even mentioned in Breaking Bad, including Jimmy’s love interest and recent bride, Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn). As a fellow lawyer, Kim is studious, talented, and seemingly altruistic. Throughout its first four seasons, Better Call Saul had audiences feeling like Kim would be caught in the crossfire of Jimmy’s schemes. However, season 5, and now 6, unveiled a more egomaniacal side of the series’ resident do-gooder, who’s very much at home in New Mexico's underworld. So much so, in fact, that she’s been the driving force behind her and Jimmy’s con to take down Howard Hamlin. Now, there’s even more speculation that Kim will die in the final season of Better Call Saul, and Gould is here for it.
