Dumb and Dumber co-director Bobby Farrelly has signed on to helm the upcoming teen ensemble road trip comedy titled,. The movie hails from Outer Banks co-creator Jonas Pate, who developed Thomas Moffett’s original screenplay with Jennifer Pate.
This marks Farrelly’s latest solo directorial project after 2023’s Champions starring Woody Harrelson and the recently released Christmas comedy Dear Santa starring Jack Black. He is also currently attached to direct Amazon MGM Studios’ family vacation comedy movie titled Sporkinfeesten.
“The film centers on teens who steal their school’s driver’s ed car to go on a road trip to help a high school senior track down his college-freshman girlfriend and win her back,” reads the initial synopsis (via Deadline).
Driver’s Ed is produced by Jonas Pate, Jennifer Pate, and David Stone, with Stuart Ford and Aghi Koh of AGC Studio serving as executive producers. In addition to directing, Farrelly will also serve as an executive producer alongside Scott Lambert (The Killer’s Game, Tár). Production on the project is expected to begin in early 2025 in North Carolina. At the moment, casting is still currently underway for the teen comedy movie.
“When the Pates and David Stone brought us this unbelievably charming script, we immediately saw the crowd-pleasing potential of the film with audiences of all ages,” Ford said in a statement. “To now have a director with Bobby’s amazing commercial track record onboard puts Driver’s Ed on a really exciting trajectory towards production early next year.”
