Cloud Chamber, the studio tasked with continuing the legendary BioShock series, is now «ramping up», with over 30 positions open at the 2K developer. Work on a BioShock successor has been shunted about for over a decade now, stopping and starting work at multiple development studios.
On LinkedIn, senior cinematic designer Jeff Spoonhower called interested developers, highlighting the many available open positions (thanks, Eurogamer). Cloud Chamber is based in Montreal, Canada, but is open to remote workers. Eurogamer notes that many roles include animation, cinematics, engineering, and narrative, suggesting that the game is still quite a ways out. We find this revelation quite surprising; 2K announced the formation of Cloud Chamber almost five years ago, and we were expecting to see it in the not-too-distant future.
It's not like it's a competition or anything (except it is a little bit). Still, BioShock creator Ken Levine's outfit, Ghost Story Games (formed from the ashes of Irrational Games following the release of BioShock Infinite), is showing gameplay for its highly ambitious next offering, Judas, currently planned for release by March 2025.
The last we heard about the next BioShock was that it was reportedly set in Antarctica and would take place concurrently with the first two games in the series, which was back in 2021.
