Shudder has acquired Benjamin Barfoot’s paranormal horror movie and has set a Halloween season release date.
The rights deal covers North America, the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. Barfoot’s sophomore movie will exclusively hit the horror streaming service on October 11, 2024.
The story of Daddy’s Head follows a boy and his young, recently widowed stepmother who find themselves in fear for their lives after they are visited by a strange and unexplainable creature – something that appears to mimic a horrifying version of the boy’s recently deceased father.
Daddy’s Head is written and directed by Benjamin Barfoot (Double Date). Matthew James Wilkinson and Patrick Tolan of Stigma Films produce it. It stars Julia Brown (BBC’s World of Fire), Nathaniel Martello-White (Small Axe: Mangrove), Charles Aitken (Happy Death Day), Kaisa Hammarlund (The Nest), Mary Woodvine (Enys Men), Ako Mitchell (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Deepica Stephen, and Nila Aalia (The Commuter).
“Daddy’s Head is a very important film for me as it intertwines personal feelings about family, grief, and trauma with my desire to experiment with the horror genre,” Director Benjamin Barfoot said of the acquisition. ”It’s very exciting to partner with Shudder as they’ve shown nothing but enthusiasm and excitement towards the film.”
Barfoot’s debut feature film, the horror comedy Double Date, premiered in 2017 and was fairly well received. It tells the story of Jim, who is terrified of girls, and on a reluctant quest to prove his manhood the night before he turns 30. He and his cocky friend Alex think they’ve hit the jackpot when they meet the beautiful siblings Kitty and Lulu, who seem up for anything on a wild party-fuelled night. But little do they know that the femmes fatales want to make Jim lose much more than just his virginity… Getting laid has never been so bloody difficult.
