The success of the Nintendo Switch has clearly inspired the rest of the major players in the video game world to give handheld gaming another try, or in some cases a first try. The Steam Deck has been a hit, and there are rumors that Xbox might be dipping its toe into the handheld gaming world in the future. PlayStation went a different route despite having previous when it comes to handheld consoles by releasing the Portal, and it has been more popular than anyone could have imagined.
Pre-orders for the PlayStation Portal sold out almost immediately and despite releasing in November of last year, the PS5 companion device has been out of stock everywhere ever since. Whenever it is back in stock somewhere, that site usually gets virtually mobbed until they're gone again, so I can only imagine that's what's happening at Best Buy right about now.
The Portal is once again back in stock at Best Buy, and as usual, you will need to act fast if you want to finally secure one of your own. If you have been trying to track one down since pre-orders went live, then you'll know the drill by now. It seems a fresh batch of Portals must have shipped recently as the device has been restocked, and then immediately sold out, in a few places. Hopefully that means if you did arrive at this article after it was already too late, it won't be long until they are restocked elsewhere. PlayStation Direct has had them in stock this week, albeit briefly, and I believe Amazon did too. Both restocks happened and then sold out again so quickly that I didn't have the time to write about it and inform those of you who still want one.
