The medieval survival strategy RPG Bellwright is heading into Steam Early Access later this month on 23rd April.
You can tell right from that sentence that Bellwright is about as broad a game as you can get. On the one hand you have survival elements of hunting, gathering and building up a defensible base, but on the other you’re also recruiting NPCs to your cause, assigning them jobs around your burgeoning town, and leading them into battle – and this takes inspiration from Mount & Blade.
Alongside all of these gameplay ideas, Bellwright promises to tell a story of uprising and rebellion against an oppressive queen, letting players live out that kind of Robin Hood fantasy while revealing your character’s mysterious lineage. This can be experienced solo or playing in co-op.
Donkey Crew held a 72-hour playtest at the end of March, gathering feedback from the community on various areas that need to be worked on, whether that’s fixing bugs or trying to optimise the general experience. Of course, this will still be a work in progress release in Early Access, and Donkey Crew has stated a commitment to ongoing content updates and fixes.
We got an early preview of the game just yesterday and came away suitably impressed. Read our Bellwright preview here.
