Baldur's Gate devs, Beamdog, have announced a colorful 80s cartoon-inspired roguelike game called MythForce. Fans of the roguelike genre will often say that along with the gameplay itself, the real fun comes from the immense sense of satisfaction they get when they're strong enough to defeat a challenge that stumped them before. But very few roguelike games are set in a colorful style like those found in MythForce.
Beamdog made a huge splash in the gaming world back in 2019 by remastering a series of classic games like Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. These titles are all considered beloved classics set in the world of tabletop RPG games like Dungeons & Dragons. InBeamdog's hands, these titles not only got a well-needed fresh coat of paint, but new content and features to enhance the experience. Now, Beamdog will attempt to expand into the roguelike genre.

Beamdog has announced the upcoming release of their fantasy roguelike game, MythForce. While Beamdog has established a highly competent reputation after remastering so many games, this will be the company's first completely original title. Taking inspiration from 80s cartoons such as He-Man, complete with a similar art style and synth-filled theme song as seen in the trailer, the game is a bright and stylized tribute to these childhood favorites. MythForce will be launched on April 20th as an Early Access game, with a playable Episode 1: Bastion of the Beastlord, though players can go ahead and wishlist it now on the Epic Games Store.
