The live-action Powerpuff Girls show is reportedly still in active development at The CW after the first iteration was rejected. Since the network's inception, The CW has been known for its many teen/young-adult dramas that are heavily rooted in the fantasy and sci-fi genres. For a decade, executive producer Greg Berlanti has been a major creator for the network, particularly because of the Arrowverse and the Riverdale universe. The mega-producer currently has over five series on the air and has been providing new shows every year since 2012.
While being primarily recognized for his Arrowverse involvement, Berlanti was close to bringing another famous IP to life, but this time from the Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network franchise: The Powerpuff Girls. The CW put a live-action adaption of the beloved cartoon into the works back in 2020, with Berlanti attached as one of the executive producers. Titled Powerpuff, the pilot was written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier, who would have served as executive producers. After putting a cast together and getting the first episode filmed, The CW didn't grant Powerpuff a series pick-up in 2021, as they decided to put it on hold and rework the pilot.
