Baldur's Gate 3, the latest video game based on the Dungeons and Dragons tabletop RPG, doesn't have an Xbox release date. Larian Studios announced long ago that the PlayStation 5 version was on the way, but has now clarified on its plans for an Xbox version.
Larian wants to bring Baldur's Gate 3 to Xbox Series S and X. In the latest Baldur's Gate 3 blog post, developers confirmed that they are still working on support for Xbox Series X and S, with S being the console holding things back for now. It isn't finished, so there isn't an exact release date for it yet like there is for PlayStation 5.
«We’ve said before that our goal is to bring our games to as many platforms as possible,» reads the blog. «We’re optimistic about Baldur’s Gate 3 on the Xbox Series X, but in order to announce and release the game on Xbox, we need to ensure that the game is performing without compromise across the entire Xbox X|S ecosystem, in multiplayer and with split-screen.»
IGN reported that Microsoft's engineers are helping to get Baldur's Gate 3's two-player split-screen working for the Xbox Series S, which isn't at a high-enough quality yet to meet the company's standards. The company won't release the game for Xbox Series X until it gets the split-screen working for both the Series S and X.
«It's not that we planned this. Our plan was that we wanted to have a simultaneous release,» Larian founder Swen Vincke told IGN. «But we've been on this game for a long time. It's a really big game.»
«There's constraints we have to overcome, so we just work on them. Some take more time.»
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently in early access on Steam. It will leave early access on August 3 and launch on September 6 for PlayStation 5.
