Will there be an Asus ROG Phone 6? If you had this question mind ever since the start of 2022, your answer has arrived. After waiting for almost half the year, Asus has finally announced that a ROG Phone 6 is coming. Asus is yet to announce a launch date but says the phone will be the first gaming smartphone with the fresh-of-the-oven Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. That seems to suggest the launch could very well take place somewhere in late 2022.
Asus shares no information on the ROG Phone 6 and there's no hint on how the phone could look like. That said, based on the past four generations of the ROG Phone, there's not much to look forward to with a new ROG Phone. Asus could be spicing up the rear of the phone with RGB lighting or small secondary displays, and could go for an even aggressive look. The front of the phone could retain its fat bezels and its stereo speakers.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip was also announced hours ago and is said to be a notable upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Performance boosts are minor but thanks to the new TSMC manufacturing, the Plus variant promises major power efficiency gains, which should address the power drain and heating issues with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Theoretically, it should be a bit faster and run much cooler. We also expect better battery life with these phones.
What remains to be seen is whether Asus plans to bring a successor to the ZenFone 8 flagship from last year, which launched earlier this year in India as the Asus 8Z. The delayed launch could be attributed to chip shortage but Asus hasn't been keen on its flagships lately.
Earlier this year, Asus also announced the ROG Phone 5s after months of delay.
