Warning! SPOILERS for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Although C-3PO is far more useful than he gets credit for, Obi-Wan Kenobi finally shows him performing his primary function in Star Wars. C-3PO is, as he often states in the Star Wars movies, a protocol droid who more often than not finds himself in perilous wartime situations. In a rare instance, Obi-Wan has Threepio translate a conversation between two sentient beings, allowing them to communicate with Threepio to fulfill his main programming.
The iconic droids C-3PO and R2-D2 support the organic heroes throughout the Star Wars saga films, and while Artoo is deservedly recognized as having saved them numerous times, C-3PO’s contributions are often overlooked. In the films and in various non-movie materials from the canon and Legends timelines, Threepio provides invaluable assistance. In Legends, Threepio saved Luke Skywalker’s life when he was menaced by the deadly bounty hunter Valance. Additionally, Threepio canonically led a network of droid spies within the Resistance. In these instances, however, C-3PO is performing functions other than what he was built for.

C-3PO has a brief cameo in the Obi-Wan episode “Part I,” where he’s seen serving the House of Organa on Alderaan. During a function, Threepio is seen translating a conversation between a human and two humanoids, making this short moment the only live-action instance of the droid fulfilling his etiquette and protocol functions as intended. While this is far from the only time C-3PO is shown translating others in the Star Wars franchise, this is the only time he does so in a time of peace and for the sake of diplomacy.
