Bad news for many Xiaomi smartphone users! The company is ending its software or firmware update support for a bunch of smartphone models. Surprisingly, the list of these smartphones includes some of the famous ones from Redmi, Redmi Note, and Mi phones such as Redmi Note 7, Redmi 7, Mi 8 SE, and more. Not just that, the list also included a couple of tablets. Xiaomi has confirmed a list of End of Support (EOS) smartphones that have been launched more than two years back.
Xiaomi’s smartphones usually get monthly or quarterly security patch updates for at least two years. Even some of the premium phones may get this security patch update for a longer period. These updates are essential to fix the vulnerabilities and security issues. If you are having any of the smartphones that will not be supported by Xiaomi for security updates, then it seems like this is the time to update to a new smartphone which can provide you with the new software updates. Well, Indian users should note that Redmi Note 7 series and the Redmi K20 smartphone are the only ones that are available in the country among these. Indian users have seen the launch of the Redmi Note 7 back in March 2019, while the Redmi K20 series made its debut in July 2019. Sadly, these devices will no longer get any MIUI updates, as well as the beta development will be withdrawn too.
Thankfully, even though these smartphones will not receive any updates in the future, Xiaomi has confirmed that in case of any serious security issues, the company may bring an update.
