It's been said for a while now that Assassin's Creed Shadows will have a smaller open world map than its immediate 'RPG' predecessors, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Word on the street is that it'll be more comparable to the map from Assassin's Creed Origins, which was still big, but perhaps wasn't quite as overwhelming as the worlds that would follow.
What's more, Ubisoft has confirmed that Shadows will boast a seasonal system, in which locations can change based on the time of year. And with that in mind, a smaller map starts to make a lot of sense.
Anyway, we've now got our first look at what seems to be the full map of Shadows, as posted on Reddit. The game's made up of nine regions — Tamba, Harima, Wakasa, Settsu, Yamashiro, Omi, Iga, Yamato, and Kii — and covers a fairly large chunk of mainland Japan, towards the south.
In the time period of Shadows, these regions were key to many a warlord, with Kyoto — then the country's capital city — situated right towards the centre. The map also covers the massive Lake Biwa, which is counted amongst Japan's most famous destinations. Awaji Island is present on the game's map as well, situated off the south-west coast, but it's unclear whether you'll actually be able to go there.

A little too much, some might say.
Thing is Origins world map was mostly empty desert, if they cover the same square mileage with the density seen in the trailers and gameplay it's going to be fairly similar in size and content to the
