Tomba! Special Edition is out now on PS5, reviving what some consider to be a classic (and underappreciated) PS1 platformer. If you've never heard of Tomba! (or Tombi!, as it was known in Europe), then honestly, you're in for a bit of a treat. In our humble opinion, it still stands as a deeply charming and unique adventure — and if you've got nostalgia for the original, then this re-release is probably going to hit extra hard.
«Tomba! is still a weird and mostly wonderful little platformer, packed with character and charm from beginning to end,» is what we wrote in our freshly published Tomba! Special Edition PS5 review. We ended up giving it a solid 7/10, concluding: «With the addition of unlimited saves and a rewind function, it's hard not to appreciate and enjoy this revived PS1 oddity.»
Pigs will fly
But will you be leaping back into this PS1 platformer? Do you have fond memories of the original game? Vote in our polls, and then feel free to grab some pigs in the comments section below.
Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he's played 'em all. A little too much, some might say.
I'm not playing (as of now) but I know Mr. Dustin Furman is
I plan on giving it a go.
Eventually. I keep seeing folks say there are no games but I can’t keep up!
Just bought it. Thanks for the reminder. Can't stress enough how excited I am to play it all over again!
I may buy a physical copy, too.
Nah dog.im chilling with my backlogs of games.word up son
I've always been interested in Tomba! but I tried it in the last few years and between the horrid early 32bit load times and the controls I just quit.
I thought this was on PS+++, not buying a PS1 game full price in 2024.
