The 24-inch iMac has yet to be updated with the M2, and for all intents and purposes, it looks like Apple will skip this generation and launch updated models instead. According to the latest report, the company also intends to add one more ‘All in One’ model to its family, and it will sport a bigger display than the iMac Pro.
The exact specifications of the 30-inch iMac are not known, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes that Apple is working on smaller screen desktops with a 24-inch screen. To remind you, the iMac Pro was fueled by Intel’s Xeon workstation processors, while the significantly bigger iMac will likely feature a powerful version of the Apple Silicon. As it so happens, the company is also working on the M3, which will be found in various portable Macs, and given the approach the company took with the 24-inch iMac, this chipset could be found in the updated models with the same screen size.
However, to set apart the 30-inch iMac from the rest of the lineup, Apple may incorporate it with the M3 Pro or M3 Max options. According to a previous rumor, one variant of the M3 Pro is being tested with a 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, and support for 36GB of unified RAM. Since the bigger iMac will have more room for heat dissipation, Apple can accommodate a wider heat spreader to tame the thermals of the M3 Pro or M3 Max. We also do not know if Apple intends to gravitate to mini-LED technology for this model or stick with an IPS LCD panel to save production costs.
Assuming that the 30-inch iMac ships with an IPS display, Apple could incorporate ProMotion technology to encourage consumers to spend more for the exclusive upgrade, but the decision to use mini-LED would be greatly appreciated. As most of you know, with the Apple
