Apple is scheduled to host its first "special event" today and mobile fans are ready to hear more about the rumored third-gen iPhone SE. Apple does not share details about upcoming hardware, but rumors, supply chain chatter, historical trends, and analyst reports help paint a picture of what's to come. Here’s everything we think we know about the iPhone SE 2022.
Although Apple tends to be tight-lipped when it comes to any details about its product roadmap and even goes so far as to file its trademarks in Jamaica, one of a handful of countries where it's all but impossible to access trademark documents without visiting in person (and the office just reopened on January 17, 2022). That said, industry analyst Ross Young claims the phone will be called the iPhone SE+ 5G.
We're not entirely sure about the name since Apple used its iPad naming conventions for the second-generation iPhone. Adding a plus to the mix brings back memories of the iPhone 8 Plus and earlier-model iPhones that had larger displays. Although we're not ruling the iPhone SE+ 5G name out just yet, we're waiting for other sources to confirm it before we get too excited.
The iPhone SE 3 will reportedly look like the 2020 iPhone SE, which resembles the iPhone 8, measures 5.45 by 2.65 by 0.29 inches (HWD), and weighs 5.22 ounces. (There’s a chance the measurement and weight will change slightly to accommodate the 5G modem and antennas.) While there were some early reports saying Apple would use the iPhone 11's form factor, Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young say there’s no merit to the rumors.
