The 13-inch MacBook Air is just right for almost everyone around the world, except for those who seek greater firepower for video editing and gaming (the 14-inch MacBook Pro is for that). However, a 13-inch display might not be enough for many, which is why new rumours now hint at a 15-inch MacBook Air. Planned for a 2023 launch, the new MacBook Air will come up with a 15-inch display other than the upgraded internals and a possibly a new design.
Display analyst Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants says that Apple is working on a MacBook Air with a 15-inch display. The laptop itself could be bigger than the slightly larger new 13-inch MacBook Air that is expected to launch later this year with the much rumoured Apple M2 chip. Young isn’t the first one to suggest this, since Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had suggested long ago of a bigger sized MacBook Air.
The MacBook Air has been long rumoured to get an upgrade ever since the 2020 model launch, both in terms of its design and firepower. The current 13-inch MacBook Air uses the mildly updated design rom 2018 but with the new M1 chip. Rumours suggest that the Air could get a MacBook Pro-inspired design with flat edges, new colour shells, and possibly the same notched display seen previously on the MacBook Pro models.
Several rumours also suggested that Apple could continue using the M1 chip for the next MacBook Air refresh due in 2022. However, other suggested the new Air could use the M1 chip with minor improvements. With the WWDC 2022 looming on the horizon, we could see Apple make a couple of big announcements on that front.
