The release date has been set, with Neon confirming when Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winning movie will be released in theaters.
Neon has officially set the Anora release date for October 18, 2024, when the film will open in a limited release across theaters. The comedy-drama recently had an incredible premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it took home the Palme d’Or, the highest prize awarded at the event.
Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Scream), Mark Eydelshteyn, Yuriy Borisov, Karren Karagulian, and Vache Tovmasyan star in the movie, while Baker is producing it with Samantha Quan and Alex Coc.
“Anora, a sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and marries the son of an oligarch,” reads the official synopsis for the film. “Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.”
With Anora marking his eighth feature film, Baker is known for 2015’s Tangerine, 2017’s The Florida Project, and, most recently, 2021’s Red Rocket. Prior to Tangerine, he also directed Starlet in 2012, Prince of Broadway in 2008, Take Out in 2004, and Four Letter Words in 2000.
