A Romanian court has ruled to continue detaining controversial Twitter influencer and alleged human trafficker Andrew Tate for another 30 days. Romanian authorities are currently holding the infamous social media personality and his brother while investigating their role in an alleged human trafficking ring.
The British-American former professional kickboxer Andrew Tate rose to fame after his appearance on the UK reality show Big Brother. He was later removed from the show after video footage emerged of him striking a woman with a belt. The social media star is known for expressing sexist and homophobic views, which has led to him being suspended from Twitter multiple times. He is likewise banned from YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram for similar violations. However, that did not stop Tate from achieving massive fame on social media, accruing about 5.1 million Twitter followers.

The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that a court in the Romanian capital of Bucharest agreed to extend Andrew Tate's detention for another 30 days. Tate, his brother, and two Romanian women are currently in custody while they are under investigation for human trafficking and organized crime. This is the third time a Romanian judge has extended Andrew Tate's detention since his and his brother's arrest on December 29, 2022. A judge explained the previous decision by citing the «particular dangerousness of the defendants» and the brothers’ capacity for identifying potentially vulnerable targets.
