Spider-Man: No Way Home star Andrew Garfield has revealed the only people he felt guilty lying to about his appearance in the film. 2021's No Way Home has quickly gone down in history as one of the most successful films of all time. Since its release it has broken numerous box office records, including surpassing James Cameron's Avatar on the domestic charts. This cultural phenomenon marks the third installment of the MCU's stand-alone Spider-Man films, and follows the titular web-slinger (Tom Holland) as he contends with characters from previous Spider-Man universes after one of Doctor Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) spells goes wrong. Among the appearing Multiverse characters were the two previous live-action iterations of Spider-Man, Garfield (who starred in The Amazing Spider-Man series) and Tobey Maguire (who starred in Sam Raimi's popular trilogy).
Early on, it was revealed that several villains would be appearing from the Multiverse in No Way Home, including Alfred Molina's Doc Ock, and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. However, the appearance of Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men was kept heavily under wraps. Of course, as soon as viewers discovered that No Way Home would include characters from previous Spider-Man series, they immediately wanted to know if either Garfield or Maguire would be appearing. In what may seem like the cinematic deception of the decade so far, both Garfield and Maguire spent nearly six months insisting that they had no involvement in No Way Home. Since the film was released and his involvement was revealed, Garfield has stated that he didn't mind lying as he knew that the payoff for fans would be immense.
