While fused warriors were a late addition to Dragon Ball canon, Dragon Ball Z solidified them as a vital part of the main series and all its other media, allowing fan creativity to run wild with unique fanart. The technique has changed the fabric of Dragon Ball's combat since its introduction, quickly being implemented by the heroes and villains of the franchise. These fused fighters now make up a pantheon of overpowered fan-favorite characters celebrated by the fandom.
Fusion has an interesting and varied history in Dragon Ball lore. The main types of fusion frequently used by the heroes are Fusion Dance, Potara Earrings, God Fusion, and EX Fusion. The Fusion Dance process is fairly self-explanatory, and it leaves the resulting fusion in Metamoran clothing due to its alien roots. Potara Earrings Fusion is brought about by a pair of mystical earrings that enhances the fusion's abilities. God Fusion is an advanced fusion involving multiple people to create an overpowered fusion. Unlike the Fusion Dance or Potara, users don't have to be power equals. EX Fusion is a Fusion technique that is a combination of all of the above. In order to perform an EX Fusion, the two users must both be wearing Metamo-Rings, and then complete the Fusion Dance. Physically the resulting fusion is similar to Potara, as their clothes and Metamo-Rings fuse in lieu of them gaining a Metamoran jacket. When these fusions are done correctly the results are a warrior with a staggering level of power, which is usually a variation on Gogeta and Vegito. Though it's contentious whether Vegito or Gogeta would win in a fight, both are exceptionally powerful.
