The chapters of contain side quests that can be easily missed if the Destined One doesn’t stray off the main path. It’s also important to remember that when you encounter NPCs pay close attention to their dialogue, as they offer hints for potential next steps. Listening to their demands and completing fetch and deliver tasks is key to unlocking secret areas, fights, and rewards.
There are a variety of side quests necessary to acquire key items, or simply to 100% complete. Some quests the Monkey will cross naturally, like Man-In-Stone, and can be completed within a given chapter. Other quests, like Xu Dog and finding the Five Skandhas Pill, are longer undertakings that require progressing through the entirety of the story. Thoroughly explore each chapter before moving onto the next.
While there are two side quests located in Chapter One, the Three Bells Quest and the Urge Unfulfilled Quest, the former is more essential to the completion of the first chapter. Whereas the latter, Urge Unfulfilled, is a much longer quest.
